Transitioning From Home To Daycare

Change can either be tough or a breath of fresh air depending on the child. We understand that this is a new beginning for everyone, family and child alike. Here are some tips that may help with this new stage in your child’s life:

Daycare Drop Off & Pick Up

As part of our safety standards, Junior Junction has a strict drop-off and pick-up policy to help protect the children in our care. A responsible adult who is known (authorised) to the Center  Manager and staff must bring children into the Centre. Only authorised persons (as indicated on the enrollment form) will be allowed to collect children from the Centre. Please notify the Manager in writing of any changes to the authorised persons. Any adult other than one known to the Centre will be required to show identification (preferably photographic). Parents with custody orders must provide a copy to the Manager.

Attendance

Parents must give at least a two-week notice before withdrawing their child from a Junior Junction daycare and a minimum of one-week notice to change your child’s session days. If your child is sick please call the center first thing in the morning, leave a message with details regarding the child’s illness.

Holidays

We allow two weeks holiday free of charge per child per year, AFTER your child has been enrolled for one year. These holidays must be taken in a minimum of one week blocks. Note that if the centre is closed over Christmas this is included in the two week holiday allocation.

Meals

Our talented in-house chefs are the heart and soul of our centers. They’re passionate about healthy eating and create nutrious snacks and lunches full o vitamins, minerals, fats and protein, with a limited added sugar.  In most cases natural sugar substitutes are used in our baking, such as bananas, apple sauce and honey. We provide morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Our menu caters to the diversity of our children and their cultural requirements. Working closely with parents and caregivers is important to ensure that every child’s diet is right for them.  If your child has specific dietary needs, please let us know upon enrollment and we will make the necessary accommodations. Our meals are nut-free to prevent allergies. Some centers also exclude dairy and eggs. Our menu is on a monthly rotation that offers a delicious variety of foods your child will love.

Infant Formula

Any infant formula is approved and supplied by the child’s parent or guardian. Infants under the age of 6 months and other children unable to drink independently, are held by a teacher when being fed a bottle.

Sleeping

In the baby and toddler areas, small beds are provided for sleeping and resting. Quiet areas, and designated sleeping rooms are provided and monitored by staff to ensure the safety of each child while they nap.  The supervision includes maintaining records of sleep times (this information is available on the parent portal). Beds are provided for any child over two who requires an afternoon rest. All bedding is labelled so that it is specific to each child.

Health & Safety

Health and safety is a top priority at Junior Junction! We ensure all policies and procedures are up to date and enforced. These include (but are not limited to) regular safety checks of all equipment, identification of and mitigation of any hazards and the safe storage of chemicals and hazardous items. Equally important is educating our children on personal safety matters such as walking inside, staying seated while eating, not throwing equipment and encouraging respectful caring behaviour at all times. A majority of center staff are trained in first-aid and attend all required course updates. To mitigate allergies, Junior Junction daycare’s are nut free (some are also dairy and egg free).

Illness

If your child is sick please call the center first thing in the morning. Please leave a message with staff or on the answering service explaining the child’s condition. Children with any kind of infectious illness or condition, including diarrhea, are required to be kept at home until the illness is no longer present. In the event of a child who is suspected of suffering from a disease or condition that is contagious and can potentially cause harmful effects on the health and wellbeing of Junior Junction children or staff, our management reserve the right to ask the parent or caregiver for a medical certificate  stating that the child is clear of any such illness prior to being premitted to return to the center. We understand that this can cause work and routine disruptions for parents and caregivers, however our priority is the health and safety of our children and staff. Providing a healthy environment for the children means you can rely on a home away from home that is safe and sound.

Immunizations

If your child is immunized, please provide their Plunket book or other medical documentation from your health provider upon enrollment. We will photocopy their immunization chart which will be kept with your child’s enrollment form. If your child is NOT IMMUNIZED please let us know upon enrollment to ensure your child’s safety and the safety of the other children. You will be notified if there is ever an infectious disease or illness in the centre.

Birthdays

There are children at the center with specific dietary requirements and allergy issues that guide their dietary intake. With this in mind, approval by the center manager is required should you want to bring cake or treats for your child to share with other children in the centre. This is to ensure that the food you bring has a low or no sugar content. Due to the amount of children we care for, sugar-based cakes and treats are not acceptable. There can be multiple birthdays during any given week at the center. If every caregiver brought in sugary foods for each celebration, the children would be receiving an alarming amount of sugar weekly.  Junior Junction believes in low/no sugar diets for the children to support their health and wellbeing. Our menus reflect this. We appreciate your cooperation and support with this practice. We are happy to celebrate your child’s milestone and believe this can happen in a fun way without the need for sugary treats.
